How the award is worked out
- Count your service from the first to the last working day, leaving out unpaid leave.
- For the first five years, you earn half a month's wage per year. After five years, a full month per year. Part years count pro rata.
- If you resigned, you get a share of that award depending on how long you worked: none under 2 years, a third from 2 to 5, two thirds from 5 to 10, all of it after 10.
This calculator follows Articles 84, 85, 87 and 80 of the Saudi Labour Law. It is an estimate, not legal advice: contracts, unpaid wages and court rulings can change the amount. For your exact figure, ask your employer for the settlement breakdown, check the Ministry of Human Resources (MHRSD) services on Qiwa, or call 19911.
Frequently asked questions
Is the award based on basic salary only?
No. The law uses your last wage, which includes fixed allowances such as housing and transport. Some employers calculate on basic salary only; if yours did, ask them to explain why.
How much do I get if I resign?
Nothing under 2 years of service, one third of the award from 2 to 5 years, two thirds from 5 to 10 years, and the full award after 10 years (Article 85).
Did the 2025 labour law changes change the award?
The amendments that took effect on 19 February 2025 changed how resignations are submitted (through Qiwa, with a 30-day response period) but did not change the award formula in Articles 84 and 85.
When must the employer pay?
Within one week after the employer ends the contract, and within two weeks after you resign.
