How Saudi VAT is worked out
- To add VAT, multiply the price by 0.15 and add it: SAR 1,000 + SAR 150 = SAR 1,150.
- To remove VAT from a total, divide by 1.15: SAR 1,150 ÷ 1.15 = SAR 1,000, so the VAT was SAR 150.
- Round each amount to two decimals (halalas), as invoices show.
The standard VAT rate in Saudi Arabia is 15% (since 1 July 2020). Some supplies are zero-rated or exempt; check with ZATCA or your accountant if you're unsure which applies. This calculator is a helper, not tax advice.
Frequently asked questions
How do I remove 15% VAT from a total?
Divide the total by 1.15 to get the amount before VAT; the VAT is the difference. For SAR 1,150, that is SAR 1,000 before VAT and SAR 150 VAT. Don't take 15% off the total: that gives the wrong answer.
