Who needs a ZATCA QR code?
Every VAT-registered business in Saudi Arabia must print a QR code on simplified tax invoices (the receipts given to consumers). The code lets a customer, or a ZATCA inspector, scan the invoice and see who issued it and how much VAT was charged.
Phase 1 and phase 2: what this tool does and doesn't do
Phase 1 (generation) asked businesses to issue electronic invoices with this QR code. Phase 2 (integration) is being rolled out in waves: businesses that ZATCA notifies must connect their invoicing system to the Fatoora platform, which signs every invoice and adds a cryptographic stamp to the QR. This tool makes the five-field QR code. It is right for checking, testing and invoices outside phase 2, but it does not replace a phase 2 e-invoicing system. ToolPeasy is not affiliated with ZATCA; check zatca.gov.sa for the rules that apply to your business.
Frequently asked questions
What is inside a ZATCA QR code?
Five fields: the seller's name, the VAT registration number, the invoice date and time, the invoice total including VAT, and the VAT amount. They are stored as TLV (tag, length, value) and encoded in Base64.
Is this enough for phase 2 (integration)?
No. Businesses ZATCA has called into phase 2 must issue invoices from an e-invoicing system connected to the Fatoora platform, which adds a cryptographic stamp to the QR code. Use this tool for phase 1 style invoices, manual invoices, checks and testing.
How do I check the QR code on an invoice I received?
Scan it with any QR scanner app, copy the text it shows, and paste it into the reader above. You will see the seller, VAT number, date and amounts it contains.
Is my invoice data uploaded?
No. The code is made in your browser. Nothing you type is sent to ToolPeasy.
