How to convert a video to MP3
- Choose your video, or drop it on the box. Phone videos (MP4 or MOV), screen recordings, WebM and MKV all work. Audio files such as M4A, WAV or OGG work too, if you just need an MP3.
- Pick a format. MP3 for anything you will play or share, M4A for the fastest lossless copy from a phone video, WAV for editing.
- Want only part of it? Type a start and end time, like 0:30 and 1:00, to cut a ringtone, a song from a concert clip or one answer from an interview.
- Press Convert, listen to the preview, then download. A ten-minute video usually takes a few seconds.
Which format and bitrate to pick
| Choice | Size per minute | Best for |
|---|---|---|
| MP3 128 kbps | About 1 MB | Speech, lectures, voice notes, podcasts |
| MP3 192 kbps | About 1.4 MB | Most music; sounds like the original to most people |
| MP3 320 kbps | About 2.3 MB | Music you want at the highest MP3 quality |
| M4A (AAC) | Same as the video’s sound | Phone videos: copied out, no quality lost |
| WAV | About 10 MB (stereo, 44.1 or 48 kHz) | Editing in Audacity, GarageBand or a DAW |
Every time sound is squeezed into a lossy format it loses a little detail, so converting AAC sound to MP3 is one more step of that. You will not hear it at 192 kbps and up, but if you need the exact original, choose M4A. A bigger bitrate never adds detail that the video’s sound did not have.
Frequently asked questions
Is my video uploaded anywhere?
No. Your browser reads the video and encodes the sound itself, using a built-in MP3 encoder (LAME) that runs on your device. The file never leaves your phone or computer, so private recordings stay private and there is no size cap from us.
Which is better: MP3, M4A or WAV?
MP3 plays on everything, so pick it if you are not sure. M4A is the fastest and loses nothing when the video is from a phone, because the sound is already AAC and is just copied out. WAV is uncompressed and large, for editing in apps like Audacity or a DAW.
What MP3 bitrate should I choose?
192 kbps sounds the same as the video's own sound for nearly everyone and is the default. Use 128 kbps for speech, lectures and voice notes to save space, and 320 kbps for music you care about. A higher number cannot add quality that the video's sound did not have.
Can I convert a YouTube or Instagram link?
No. This tool works on video and audio files saved on your device, such as clips you recorded yourself. It doesn’t fetch links from YouTube, Instagram or TikTok. Only convert videos you have the right to use, and follow each site’s own terms.
